Se7en Title Sequence Analysis

From the opening title sequence we can already convey the ideas that this film is going to be about a policeman, possibly an undercover detective of some sort solving murder cases which appear to be linked. We can see this in the part of the title sequence where he is sticking pictures of murders into a book as if trying to find similarities and clues between them which would aid him in finding the killer.

We can also convey from this film that it will most likely be a horror/thriller type movie judging from the unsettling music used in the title sequence which almost makes the viewers cringe as it is quite unnerving  We can also convey this idea due to the fact that the title sequence seems dark and gloomy foreshadowing an idea of death in this film.

We can also convey the idea that the main character in this film is possibly slightly mentally unstable or has mental problems as he uses a pendulum to shield all other sounds he can hear outside to help him get to sleep as if it is driving him insane in his poorly build apartment.

The text used to show the actor names and production companies is a rather horrific like font, it appears to be quite unnerving which adds to the music and atmosphere in which this is set, overall adding to the idea that this film will be an unsettling horror/thriller type film.

The font that comes up reveals the production company (New Line Cinema) first before who the film is by and then the actors afterwards in order of importance. We can see that Morgan Freeman is the main character as his actor name appears in the title sequence first. We can also convey the idea that the production companies name is the most important thing to be shown to the audience before the film had begun.

We can also convey further ideas of the unnerving unsettling environment which this foreshadows the film to have, as while the detective is looking through the pictures we see many unnerving pictures of death and one of a child with his eyes crossed out implying that he was also a victim of these murders which highlights the atrocities and brutalities that have been committed and will most like be shown later in the film.
